Just come across the blog - good to see someone else enjoying this paddle! I live 10mins from Calshot/Lepe so regularly do this trip as a early morning or evening paddle either before my 3 year old daughter is awake or after she is tucked up in bed. Pics are great and interesting to see the stove info. Let me know if you're down this way and fancy some company!

For anyone wishing to do this trip, Calshot has a public carpark but which is cheap enough and quite busy but for extra security leaving vehicles etc you may want to use Calshot Activities Centre. More expensive - £6 for the day - but this gives access to changing/shower facilities and the carparking is very secure and patrolled/cctv covered.

If the wind/tide dictates a launch from Lepe, parking in front of the cafe/visitors centre is the safest option (and provides a welcome cuppa or bacon sarnie before/after the paddle - recommend the brunch bap!). This launch point gives three options.

Lepe to Calshot, Lepe up the Beaulieu river - very picturesque or Lepe along the coast to Lymington (more exposed and probably a day paddle due to the distance involved to get there and back).

Of course, if you're experienced in reading wind/tides and happy to cross the extremely busy channel, you can head across to the Isle of Wight. Checking in with the Solent Coastgaurd recommended for 'securite' broadcasts (info on big vessel movements) and to let them know your intentions.

Hi again Dave,
Nice to see pics of your walks too. I forgot to say in my Barradise reply that after that week, I successfully walked the 95 miles of the West Highland Way in 8 consecutive days. It was a tough walk, especially doing it solo apart from 1 day when I walked with a friend, but well worth doing-fabulous scenery.
Cheers!

Hi Dave,
Great to see your photos ,great title and very appropriate: Barradise indeed. I just loved that week on Barra and loved sea kayaking. My friends are so impressed when I show them my photos at how beautiful it is and the tales of otters and seals, driftwood collection and sheep rescue. It was such fun. I could seriously get into sea kayaking and want to do a lot more. I followed your link to Plas y Brenin and might do something with them next year.I'd like to do the Clearwater trip to Oman but won't be able to afford it next year,as the air fare is pricey, so I'll have to save up.I like your other photos too of your different exploits.
Best wishes
